When Will Rob Portman Have to Run for Senate Again

On Monday, Ohio Sen. Rob Portman announced that he would not seek re-election in 2022.

Portman was elected to the Senate in 2010. It came after the retirement of Republican George Voinovich. Prior to that, Portman served parts of seven terms in the U.South. House from 1993 to 2005, representing Ohio's 2nd Congressional District.

Leading up to the 2012 presidential ballot, some pundits believed Portman could exist a vice presidential candidate aslope Mitt Romney. Instead, Romney chose Wisconsin Rep. Tim Ryan as his running mate. Romney lost to President Barack Obama, who won Ohio in the election.

Sen. Rob Portman Statement on Political Time to come

CINCINNATI, OH – Today, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) issued the post-obit statement announcing that he will not seek some other six-year term in the United States Senate when his current term expires in 2022:

"I experience fortunate to have been entrusted by the people of Ohio to represent them in the United states of america Senate. Today, I am announcing that I have made a determination not to run over again in 2022.

"This doesn't mean I'grand leaving at present – I all the same accept 2 more years in my term and I intend to use that fourth dimension to get a lot done. I will exist the top Republican on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and I have a number of oversight projects and legislative initiatives I'thou eager to get across the finish line. This includes impactful laws to address the drug addiction crunch like the Comprehensive Habit and Recovery Act that has saved lives by providing billions in new resources for evidence-based prevention, treatment and, for the first time ever, recovery services. It includes laws to confront the horrific criminal offense of man trafficking. Working with trafficking victims, advocates, and police enforcement, my SESTA legislation has allowed victims to seek justice, and closed down websites that were trafficking girls and women online.

"It includes laws to help workers, legislation that before the pandemic helped create one of the strongest economies in a generation, with significant wage growth for working families and the everyman poverty level ever recorded. I took a leadership role on taxation reform and tax cuts, workforce preparation, regulatory relief and permitting reform.
